Under 11s and Under 13s are taking a day trip to Melaka where we are being hosted by SK Paya Rumput.

Under 15s are at SBPI Gombak for games against them and two other Selangor schools.

All games are in the morning from 9am onwards. Check with age group coaches if you want more details and to go along and support.

THE Kuala Lumpur Barbarians, comprising the combination of the Klang Valley-based Bintang Rugby Club (BRC) along with SM Sains Selangor and Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Gombak, got off to a winning start against visiting Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRFU) in the Under-14 contest at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar in Mantin, Negri Sembilan recently……..  Continue reading.

The first games were played at the excellent NS Wanderers / Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar, Mantin facilities on Saturday 31 March and the afternoon started well for Hong Kong Under 14s who went out to a 0-12 lead early. The KL team fought back well and took a 17-12 lead before conceding a soft try and heading in to the last few minutes of the game 17-19 down. When HK gave away a penalty it was the chance KL needed and the kick went over to make it 20-19 with a couple of minutes left. HK pressured for the remaining time, but the KL defence held firm and the result was a tough 20-19 win for KL Barbarians.

In the days second game, HK Under 16s proved too strong for KL and came away convincing winners 5-57. The KL boys had not played to the best of their ability and all mistakes were capitalised on by HK. The Barbarians had a couple of days to rest and regather to take on HK again on Tue.

The second round of matches took place at Royal Selangor Club, Bukit Kiara on Tuesday 3 April with the Under 14s again kicking-off first. This time it was KL Barbarians that started strongest, moving out to a 17-0 lead. HK showed great spirit and fought back to 17-14 with two early second half tries, but KL Barbarians settled again and did not concede any more points and finished the game strongly pushing for one last score, which unfortunately did not come.

But a great win for KL Barbarians 17-14, to make it two victories out of two -Well done boys, a tremendous effort!

The HK under 16 team again proved to be too good in the second game and scored their second big win of the tour.

Following the games the great spirit of rugby was in evidence as all the teams enjoyed a lunch together at Out of Africa / PJ Palms. KL Barbarians have to sincerely thank Zerin Properties for sponsoring this lunch for the KL squads. Unfortunately the weather prevented the big swimming session that had been planned.

It was an honour for the club to be involved in these games and a great experience for the players to go up against some very strong opposition – that’s how we best learn.

We hope to welcome HKRFU teams back to KL in the future and to possibly tour to play them in HK.

THE Kiwi rugby coaches’ command of Bahasa Malaysia were confined to several simple words closely related to speed during their recent one-week debut appearance in Malaysia under the Klang Valley-based Bintang Rugby Club (BRC) development initiatives.
