Serious Rugby played for Fun
Formally established in 2007 Bintang Rugby Club developed form Cobrats which had been running for several years. The growth has been tremendous since formation with membership numbers above 250 and growing.
The increase in young Malaysians starting to play is especially pleasing though the club remains very international with approximately 25 nationalities represented.
The club philosophy is to provide serious rugby for all, in a fun and safe environment and given the influx of members from the local and expatriate communities this seems to be working.
The club have won tournaments on a regular basis overseas and in Malaysia and also hosts events including the BRC International 10s in February each year (2010 saw 95 teams take part) and the Crown Relocations League – A BRC 7s tournament is in the early stages of planning.
The club has achieved what it has with the help of our superb sponsors who enable the club to run free of charge including providing training shirts for all members.
BRC is partnered with Saracens of The Aviva Premiership in England which provides access to coaching personnel, who visit Malaysia and information & training for BRC coaches who are all volunteers and have attained either iRB Level 2 or Level 1 qualifications.
The club relies a great deal on its membership to support local events and international tours and we are pleased to have such a great group always there to volunteer time and effort to assist.
The committee plan to continue the growth of the club and the development of rugby in Malaysia.
